Aerosmith is looking for a new frontman, BBC reports.
Although Steven Tyler has not yet officially said he is leaving the band, guitarist Joe Perry said, “Steven quit as far as I can tell,” basing his remarks on an interview Tyler had with Classic Rock magazine. In the article, Tyler spoke of plans of pursuing a solo career, but did not outright declare he intends to leave the group.
On his Twitter account, Perry revealed that Tyler “hasn’t called me in months” and that the last time they talked on the phone, “he hung up on me.”
Perry added, “In the meantime Aerosmith is positivly [sic] looking for a new singer to work with. You just can’t take 40 years of experience and throw it in the bin!”
The band’s problems started when the lead singer fell off the stage while at a South Dakota gig. The fall broke Tyler’s left shoulder and resulted to cancelled concerts after his doctor advised him against performing.
Relations between Tyler and Perry have soured in recent years, with Perry revealing to Associated Press, that he and the frontman “haven’t written a song together alone in the same room in over 10 years.”
Spokespersons for Aerosmith have yet to comment on the issue.
