Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the greatest scorer in NBA history, revealed he is battling a rare form of leukemia.
Jabbar, 62, said he had been suffering from sweating and hot flashes since 2007, and after seeing a doctor in December 2008, was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a relatively slower-growing form of cancer that professionals say could take years to progress.
The legendary player, who had gone public to make sure that people learn about the disease, reported that he is not at an advanced stage and that the disease does not have to be his death sentence provided that he followed proper treatment regimen.
One of the greatest college and professional basketball players of all time, Jabbar won six NBA championships with the Lakers and the Bucks, six MVPs, and three NCAA titles at UCLA.
